Burroughs and Tennessee Williams. The city has also inspired many works of literature, such as Bowles’ novel “The Sheltering Sky” and the collection of essays “Tangier: City of the Dream” by Christopher Baker. Tangier is also an important port city and an economic hub in the region. It has a diverse economy that includes industries such as fishing, agriculture, and manufacturing, as well as a growing service sector.
